Gilbert Luker

 

Gilbert K. Luker, 93, of Mason City, Iowa, and formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz officiating.  Committal services will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

CL girls split NCC games

 

The Clear Lake girls moved their record to 4-2 after splitting contests with North Central Conference teams.  Tuesday, Dec. 11, the Lions manhandled Clarion-Goldfield, 52-49, putting themselves in a tie for second in the league.  However, the chance to move atop the NCC eluded the Lions Friday, as St Ed’s posted a 53-34 win.

G-H/V girls pull off nail-biters

 

The odds were in their favor last week, as the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura girls basketball team picked up two very close wins.

 

G-H/V 34, Osage 32

It was close contest all the way through the game, as the Cardinals topped Osage 34-32 on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Cowboys capture win over Clear Lake

 

The Clarion Cowboys pulled out a 37-32 win Thursday night in a packed Clear Lake gym. 

 

“Our crowd was amazing,” stated Lion Coach Gary Weber.  “I just wish we would have performed a little better to pull out a win for them.”

Cardinals garner three more wins

 

It was very productive week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys, as they picked up three more wins.  The Cardinals are in a three way tie for third place in the North Iowa Conference with a record of 3-2.  Belmond-Klemme, 6-0, and North Iowa, 7-0, are currently leading the conference.

 

G-H/V 60, Osage 51

A strong first half helped the G-H/V boys cruise to a victory over Osage on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Four G-H/V wrestlers place at tournament

 

    The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura wres-tling team had a busy week, wrestling at Central Springs on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at West Hancock on Thursday, Dec. 13, and competing in the Glenn Brand Tournament at Clarion on Saturday, Dec. 15.

At Central Springs, the Cardinals wrestled against Forest City and Central Springs in a triangular.  G-H/V dropped both matches. 

Slippery conditions send vehicles into I-35 ditches

 

(Pictured right) Weather is being blamed for a single vehicle accident Monday morning just north of Clear Lake on I-35.  Shala Strickland, 21, of Burkburnett, Texas, was southbound on I-35 when the vehicle she was driving apparently hit a patch of light snow.  

Early deadlines in effect for next two issues of your Mirror-Reporter

 

The upcoming Christmas and New Years holidays on Tuesdays have forced a change in deadlines for the next two issues of the Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter.  Although the newspaper will be published, as usual, on Wednesday Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, the deadline for each of those issues will be the preceding Thursday. 

The deadline for the next issue of the Mirror-Reporter is this Thursday, Dec. 20.
