    The public is invited to meet the new executive director of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Tim Coffey, at a Meet & Greet scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Clear Lake Arts Center.

Soccer boys are off to a 1-1 start on the 2012 season

  The Clear Lake boys soccer team is off to a 1-1 start on the season.  The team opened at home Thursday, April 5, against Humboldt.  The two teams played evenly, but Humboldt came away with the win, 4-2.  Monday, the Lions got their first win with by a 3-1 score over Mason City.  Next up for the Lions is a Thursday, April 12, game at home against Garner-Hayfield.

Clear Lake girls host Early Bird Track Meet; place seventh

    The Clear Lake girls track team hosted its Early Bird Track Meet Tuesday, April 3.  Algona ran away with the team title, racking up 161 points to Bishop Garrigan’s 90.  Clear Lake placed in seven events, giving them 28 points and placing them seventh in the eight team standings.

Toppin paces Ventura boys track team

The Ventura boys track team competed in two meets last week.  Monday, April 2, the team competed at the CWL meet held in Britt and on Thursday, April 5, they were at Clarion.
CWL Meet
    Sophomore Joel Toppin picked up two first place medals to pace the Vikings.  He ran the 3200 meter run in 10:39.44 and the 1600 meter run in 4:55.87.  He also placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.96.
    Josh Miller placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 31’4.50”.

CL boys track team working on maximizing points

    The Clear Lake boys track team jumped into the season with both feet last week, participating in three meets.  Coach A.J. Feuerbach said his squad is doing just what he hoped-- scoring more points each time out.
    “I’m proud of the efforts of our athletes.   We will continue to get the lineup set so that we can maximize our points.  Our team times overall are the best in my five years as the head coach, but still not where they need to be to win events.  We’ll keep working hard to improve,” he said.

Clear Lake girls tennis team falls to Cadets, 8-1

The Clear Lake girls tennis team opened the season Thursday, April 5, against a very tough Iowa Falls-Alden squad.  The Cadets handled the Lions, 8-1.
    Clear Lake’s only win came in the number two doubles match, where Kaitlyn Pitzen and Amie Adams posted a 10-7 victory. 

Boys tennis team falls to MC; rebounds to top IF-A

  The Clear Lake boys tennis team opened its season last week with matches at Mason City and Iowa Falls-Alden.  The Lions rebounded from an 8-1 loss to the Mohawks with a 5-4 win over the Cadets.
    At Mason City, the Lions were challenged by an experienced Mohawk squad.  Mason City’s five returning letter winners were too much for the Lions in a 8-1 match.  The lone Lions win came at number two doubles, where Luke Schiller and Austin Anderson won by the score of 6-4 6-2.

Small, but mighty Ventura girls place fourth

 The Ventura girls track team opened its season at the CWL meet held in Britt on Monday, April 2.  The small, but mighty team of eight had a good night, placing fourth out of nine teams.  West Hancock won the meet with 198 points, followed by Lake Mills with 123, Garner with 114 and Ventura scored 41 points.  Also competing in the meet was CAL, Central Springs, Belmond-Klemme, Northeast Hamilton and CWL.
