The Clear Lake boys soccer team pushed some of the state’s best soccer teams to the brink in the past week, emerging with a split in match play and an 0-3 record at the Waverly Soccer Tournament.

Busy schedule for CL girls tennis team

The Clear Lake girls tennis team played two dual matches in two days and participated in a quadrangular meet on the third day. The busy schedule provided lots of opportunities, according to Coach Martha Andrews.

    The Lions played at Iowa Falls Monday, April 30.  Clear Lake’s Alexis Atkinson picked up a win in singles for the Lions, as did the doubles team of Kaitlyn Pitzen and Taylor Julsen.  Julsen also played a very close singles match, but lost in the tie-breaker, 7-5.

Boys tennis team falls to Ford Dodge St. Eds

     The Clear Lake boys tennis team dropped a match 8-1 to Fort Dodge St. Ed’s.  The Gaels were heavily favored in the match.  They finished in the top eight in the state a year ago and returned four of their top six players this year.

Clear Lake artist creates series of Surf Ballroom inspired works

    The Clear Lake Arts Center is sponsoring a special exhibit by artist Jaclyn Garlock.  Included in this exhibit is a recently completed significant series of paintings depicting people in and about the Historical Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. 

Proposed noise ordinance moves ahead

First of three readings passes on 3-1 vote

    Despite some rumbling from about 20 persons attending Monday night’s meeting, the Clear Lake City Council approved the first of three readings of a new noise ordinance for the community.
    The second reading of the ordinance will be held at the next council meeting on May 21.

City OKs third phase of Pine Brooke Subdivision

    The Clear Lake City Council gave its approval Monday to the third addition of the Pine Brooke Residential Subdivision, located just north of 10th Avenue North.  Work is expected to begin soon to develop twin homes on nine lots. 
    The third and final phase of the subdivision represents a successful venture between the City of Clear Lake and Developer Tim Stenberg, of Joshua, Inc.    

Kevin Hansen

    Kevin C. Hansen, 56, of Clear Lake, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. 
    An informal celebration of his life was held Sunday, April 29, at the The Other Place, Clear Lake. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a memorial visitation with family was held Thursday, April 26 at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

Gerald Gordon

    Gerald T. Gordon, 71, passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.  A visitation was held Monday afternoon, April 30, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Monday.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the American Diabetes Association, 2600 72nd St. Suite 0, Urbandale, Iowa 50322.
