Clear Lake wrestlers on a roll

The Clear Lake wrestling team went 6-1 in dual meets this past week, with its only loss coming to fifth ranked Denver -Tripoli.
Clear Lake beat Charles City, 48-17, and Iowa Falls, 64-7, but lost to Denver 35-33. The Lions also won all four duals at Wapsie Valley.
The loss to Denver proved to be the most exciting of the week. The Lions were trailing 20-0, but stormed back to take the lead.
The two most highly anticipated matches of the night lived up to their billing. Joe Colon had a rematch with Levi Wolfensberger, who he beat 11-9 in the state finals. Colon pinned Wolfensberger in the first period before a loud crowd. The next match at 119 pitted state runner-up Blake Sorenson against third ranked Tucker Weber. Sorensen is a national champion in his age group as well as a triple crown winner. Weber beat Sorenson in double overtime.
Those two wins were not enough, however, as Denver won the last two matches of the night to pull out the win.

“James Moran and Tanner Lacey each had two big wins against Charles City. They are both gaining a lot of experience,” said Clear Lake Coach Gary Weber.

Coach Weber noted the meet referee complimented the Clear Lake crowd on how loud, but yet respectful they were during the dual meet.

Wapsie Valley Dual Meet
The Clear Lake wrestling team won the Wapsie Valley dual meet this past weekend by going 4-0. Six Clear Lake wrestlers made the all tournament team. Joe Colon, Tucker Weber, Joe Bieber, Rudy Wieck, Patrick Kolker and Zach Lindquist all went 4-0.
The Lions beat Wapsie Valley 79-0, Center Point Urbana 61-10, Riceville 68-11 and Western Dubuque 43-28.
“We had a good day,” said Coach Gary Weber. “Western Dubuque beat MFL last week and also beat West Delaware, the third ranked team in Class 2A. Western Dubuque has 67 kids out for wrestling. It was fun to beat a quality team like that.”
All 14 Lions received medals and the team received the first place trophy.
Coach Weber provided these comments:
103-Jacob Colon, 3-1. Jacob’s lone loss came against a good kid from Center Point-Urbana. Jacob is 20-3.
112-Joe Colon, 4-0. Joe pinned three kids and had one forfeit. Two of the kids were state ranked. Nobody has gone a full match with Joe this year. Joe is 22-0.
119-Tucker Weber, 4-0. Tuck also pinned all four kids. He had a great week. He is 22-2 on the year.
125-Joe Bieber, 4-0. Joe is ready to step up to the next level.
130-Sean Clemons, 3-1. Sean looked good on Saturday. He is much more under control this year.
135-Jake Kopriva, 3-1. Jake has been weighing in at 130 and moving up to help the team. That is quite a sacrifice he is making to make our team better.
140-Christian Trebil, 2-2. Chris had a couple of one point losses, which will only make him better. He is having a great year.
145-Rudy Wieck, 4-0. Rudy is 20-4 on the year and ready to make his first trip to the state tournament. He beat a ranked kid earlier in the week against Nashua.
152-Spencer Rollefson, 3-1. Spencer showed some improvement on Saturday. His only loss came against a Class 3A ranked kid.
160-Ryan Wilcke, 2-2. Ryan had a great day. Ryan only weighs 150 and is wrestling 160 to help the team. He is getting better every day.
171-Levi Kellogg, 3-1. Levi had a huge win against West Dubuque which really gave our team momentum. For Levi to go 3-1 is quit an accomplishment.
189-Tanner Lacey, 2-2. Tanner weighs 173 and is wrestling 189. Tanner was losing 14-2 and pinned a kid with :01 second left in the match to highlight his day. It shows what can happen if you never give up. He is doing just great for a freshman.
215-Patrick Kolker, 4-0. Patrick is really looking good on his feet and we think we have his style figured out. I really feel he is one of the top 215 pounders in the state.
285-Zach Lindquist, 4-0. Zach had three pins and a forfeit. He is 17-1 on the year and ranked sixth in state in one poll. Zach’s confidence has skyrocketed in the last year and it is showing up in victories.
