Despite 16 hits CL girls fall to Clarion-Goldfield in slugfest

C-G 17, CL 11
The Clear Lake girls found themselves in the midst of a slugfest Monday, June 22.  The Lions pounded out 16 hits, but unfortunately Clarion-Goldfield had even more and took home a 17-11 win.
“This game was an interesting one, it felt like a scoring rally.  We did manage to put together 16 hits as a team, but it still wasn’t enough to walk away with win,” said Clear Lake Coach Stephanie Haacke.
Six different players had at least two hits from the Lions, led by freshman Emma Schiller’s triple and two singles.  She tallied three RBIs in the game.  Freshman Meg Monson had three singles, good for two RBI, and eighth grader Olivia Myers had a double and single.
Taylor Berger, Jordan Crosser and Rea Faber also had two hits in the game.  Berger picked up two RBI.
The Cowgirls pounded out 14 hits against pitchers Kathryn Nieman and Taylor Diehl.  They also took advantage of nine walks.

CL 15, Garrigan 5

The Lions earned an important win Wednesday, June 24.  More importantly than boosting their record, the win lifted the confidence of the team.
“We needed a game like this for our team to build back some confidence.  We did a better job with our mental approach throughout this game than we have in the past.  We did commit several errors but we were able to adapt and overcome our mistakes with our bats,” said Coach Stephanie Haacke.
Clear Lake jumped on the scoreboard first, bring in two runs in the first inning and adding five more in the third for an insurmountable lead.
Kathryn Nieman picked up the win in six innings pitched.  She struck out four and walked four.

Lions clobber the Cowboys, 11-1

The Clear Lake boy strung together three wins, then dropped a close 4-3 contest to Hampton-Dumont last week  to improve to 7-12 overall and 5-6 in the North Central Conference.

CL 11, C-G 1
The Lions started the week with a strong overall performance to post an 11-1 six inning victory over Clarion-Goldfield Monday, June 22.
“I was pleased to see the consistency in our offense, constantly putting pressure on their defense and scoring in every inning except for the second,” said Lion Coach Seth Thompson.   “I thought we showed good discipline at the plate and battled for some key hits and walks throughout the game.”
Elliott Neuberger kept the Cowboys off-balance, striking out eight and not allowing an earned run on the night. The sophomore  tossed a three-hitter.
The Cowboys got their only run in the fourth inning.  Clear Lake, which had scored one in the first and second innings,  responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame for a 7-1 lead.  Neuberger was also a key piece of the offense, with a pair of singles.  Josh Carlson and Zac Bendickson also had two hits and two RBIs apiece for the Lions.
The Lions pounded out 10 hits in the game.

CL 9, Garrigan 0
The Lions continued to roll Wednesday, June 24, topping Bishop Garrigan, 9-0.
“This was our most complete game of the season,” said a pleased Coach Thompson.  “It was great to see our kids execute so well at the plate, on defense, and on the mound against a good Bishop Garrigan team to come away with an impressive 9-0 win.”
The Lions had 15 hits on the night, only one error, and no walks by pitcher Ozzie Adams.
