The Clear Lake girls golf team competed in a pair of close meets last week.  The Lions fell two strokes short of winning at Clarion, but prevailed in Mason City against Newman Catholic and Mason City High School.

Clarion 191, CL 193
The Lions’ Madison Fischels earned medalist honors with a 44, but the Lions didn’t have the consistency they needed for a team win.  They fell 191-193 to the Cowgirls on April 25.
Cristina Monson carded a 48 and Rachel Hewitt had a 49 for the Lions.  Morgan Duesenberg finished with a 52.  Also playing in the varsity round was Kara Mathis, who had a 56.
The loss put the Lions’ record at 8-2.
The Clear Lake JV fell, 204-135 to C-G.  The Lions were paced by Brittany Mumm’s 55.  Taylor Diehl and Christa Terwilliger each had 58s.  Cortney Monson carded a 64.  The JV team also included Sam Horner with a 66 and Bre Hamilton with a 71.

CL 190, Newman 202, MC 223
Madison Fischels was again the medalist in a triangular with Mason City schools May 1.  Fischels had a 40 to lead the Lions.  Newman’s Jocelyn Doerfler was runner-up with a 47.
Clear Lake got the consistency their coach was hoping for in the meet.  Rachel Hewitt, Kara Mathis and Morgan Duesenberg all had rounds of 50.  Breanne Mumm fired a 51 and Cristina Monson finished with a 53.
In junior varsity action, Taylor Diehl was the top finisher for Clear Lake with a 49.  Christa Terwilliger had a 55, Cortney Monson a 56 and Brittany Mumm 59.
