Donald B. Abbott, 75, of 1115 8th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Military honors were by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Family suggests memorials to the Donald B. Abbott Memorial Fund.
Donald was born July 2, 1932 in Boone, Iowa the son of William and Margaret (Horne) Abbott. He attended Boone High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Don married Eloise Hockensmith on Jan. 3, 1953 in Arkansas. Following the service he moved back to Mason City and drove truck for the Teamsters Union Local 828, Mason City.
His greatest joys were spoiling his grandchildren, going on cruises and serving on the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association Honor Guard. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, a lifetime member of Clear Lake V.F.W., former member of Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and Eagles of Mason City.
Don is survived by his wife, Eloise Abbott, Mason City; three children, Donald Abbott and his wife, Kathy, Vacaville, Calif., David Abbott and his wife, Liz, Clear Lake, and Dennis Abbott and his wife, Sheral, Clear Lake; 14 grandchildren, Leslie Jo Hoffman, Janesville, Minn., Melissa Ann Abbott, Houston, Texas, Rocky Reed Abbott, Grimes, Iowa, Kenyon Clark Abbott, Mason City, Jason William Abbott, Hemet, Calif., Harley David Abbott, Clear Lake, Michael Nathan Davidson, Oceanside, Calif., Billy Neal Davidson, Clear Lake, Heidi Elizabeth Davidson, Clear Lake, Benjamin Michael Davidson, Clear Lake, Hailey Ann Davidson, Clear Lake, Skye Lee Lovik, Clear Lake, Zachary Allen Abbott, Clear Lake, and Alicia Jo Abbott, Clear Lake; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Jo Hoffman, Heather Lee Hoffman and Briar Elizabeth Lovik; one brother, Ed Abbott and his wife, Helen, Ames, Iowa and one sister, Karen Ely and her husband, Loren, Boone, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Alex Abbott; one sister, Kate Pervier; a daughter, Denise Madonna Lovik, and a grandson, Baby Boy Abbott.
