Free Throw Championship slated for Jan. 13
    All boys and girls from the ages of 10-14 (as of Jan. 1) are invited to participate in the local level of the competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.  The local competition will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Ventura High School gym.  Preregistration is recommended and entry forms can be obtained at area school offices.  The doors open at 1 p.m.  For additional questions contact Tom Stephany at 357-6117.

Indoor Soccer to begin in January
    The Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Department is offering Indoor Soccer for boys and girls in kindergarten through third grade.  The program will be held on Saturdays from Jan. 12-Feb. 3.  First and second grade will play from 10-11 a.m. and Kindergarten will play from 11-11:45 a.m.  The program is held at the Clear Lake Middle School gym (enter through the west doors).  There is an $8 registration fee.  Deadline for registering is Jan. 4.  Shin guards are required to play and will be available for $10 on the first week.  

Open gym to be held in Ventura
     Ventura will hold open gym on Saturdays, from 1-3 p.m.  Open gym   will run through March 29.  Participants are asked to bring their own balls and gym shoes.  The event is open to all ages.

Wild game feed to be held Jan. 19
     The Ventura Gun Club will hold a wild game feed fund raiser on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Ventura Community Center.  Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.  Each person is asked to donated $10.  A silent auction will also be held.  Tickets are available from Larry Coe, John Monson, Dave Wickman, Steve Schutte, Arlen Throne, Dr. Harold Beckner, Matt Coe, Mark Scholl, Tim Gerdes, Mike Halverson or at the door.  For questions call 357-5886 or 641-998-2398.

Lakette Bowling announces winners
    The Lakette Bowling league met on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Lake Lanes in Clear Lake.  Winners included:  Individual High Game, Kathy Astor, 201; Individual 3-Game Series, Kathy Astor, 537; Team High Game, Whitehurst Mowing, 718; Team 3-Game Series, Dickes Drywall, 1940.  Splits: Deb Hudson and Carla Smith, 3-10. Monthly results included:  Individual High Game, Shari Vestweber, 245; Individual 3-Game Series, Shari Vestweber, 603; Team High Game, Whitehurst Mowing, 768; Team 3-Game Series, Dickes Drywall, 2056.  Top 5 averages:  Shari Vestweber, 171; Kathy Astor, 163; Marian Strayer, 153; Shelley Stephens, 148; Kim Grube, 147.  Team standings:  Dickes Drywall, 41-23; Lake Lanes, 41-23; Whitehurst Mowing, 39-25; unearned points, 7-57.

MALL Bowling League announces winners
    The MALL Bowling League met on Monday, Dec. 31.  Winners included:  Individual High Game, Clyde Hutchinson, 173 and Karen Humphrey, 178; Individual 3-Game Series, Clyde Hutchinson, 494 and Irene Zuck, 457; Team High Game, Fareway, 392; Team 3-Game Series, Fareway, 1104. Splits:  Irene Zuck, Joan Dankbar and Sharon Coe.  Montly results included:  Individual High Game, Clyde Hutchinson, 181 and Irene Zuck, 226; Individual 3-Game Series, Clyde Hutchinson, 494 and Irene Zuck, 542; Team High Game, Back Yard Deli, 427; Team 3-Game Series, Back Yard Deli, 1167.  Top 5 averages:  Clyde Hutchinson, 155; Don Steffa, 112; Karen Humphrey, 164; Irene Zuck, 153; Sharon Coe, 149.  Team standings:  Back Yard Deli, 43-25; Forever Tan, 42-26; Fareway, 36-32; Fertile Downtown Cafe, 34.5-33.5; Lake Lanes, 30.5-37.5; unearned points, 18-50.
