Luvern Baskerville
Luvern L. Baskerville, 88, a Marshalltown, Iowa resident, entered into eternal life Sunday, June 26, 2011 at MMSC in Marshalltown.
A celebration of life service was held Friday, July 1, at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. Interment will be held at a later date in Fonda, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Elim Lutheran Church or the Gideons.
Luvern was born in Fonda on June 13, 1923, son of Lester and Clara Baskerville. He graduated from Fonda High School and attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Beulah Krohn, Nov. 1, 1942 in Lytton, Iowa. He farmed near Fonda until 1956 when he began custodial work at Lytton School until 1964. He then became the building and grounds superintendent at Estherville Schools through 1966. He then moved to Marshalltown and was the building and grounds superintendent for Marshalltown schools and Marshalltown Community College. Luvern retired in 1983 with 19 years of service there.
Luvern was an active member of Lutheran churches and Gideon’s wherever he lived. Following retirement he resided in Clear Lake and Mason City and spent 23 winters in Apache Junction, Az. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, lapidary, silversmithing and stained glass hobbies, music, singing in choirs and family genealogy.
Luvern is survived by his wife, Beulah, of 68 years; daughter, Marlene (Ken) Shadle of Mason City; son, Lester (Ginny) Baskerville of Kellogg, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Linda Baskerville of Mason City; sons, Bruce (Pam) Baskerville of West Des Moines and James (Debra) Baskerville of Marshalltown as well as 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Luvern was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Clara Baskerville; brothers, Don and Leroy; son, Warren Baskerville; grandson, Spenser Baskerville; and in-laws, Henry and Ethel Krohn.
