Lady Vikes move to 2-0 in Conference

It was a successful week on the road for the Ventura volleyball team, as they picked up two wins.

    The Lady Vikes topped Clay Central-Everly Tuesday night, Sept. 20.  Ventura won a close first game, 25-21.  They dropped the second game, 25-20, before going on to win the next two games, 25-22 and 25-18.
    “We really came together tonight as a team,” said Coach Abby Roenfanz.  “I am very proud of how well they played and were able to adapt.  They kept their heads up even when down and fought for every point.”

City rejects contractor’s bill for change order in fire station construction

    The Clear Lake City Council has directed City Administrator Scott Flory to meet with representatives of SEH, Inc. to negotiate the amount the city is willing to pay for a change order the architectural firm made on the city’s new fire station without Council approval.
    Stan Owens, lead technician, architectural services for SEH, told the Council at a recent workshop that during the excavation at the rear of the building substandard materials were discovered in the subsoil.

No contested races for City Council seats

There will be no suspense associated with local elections in November.  
    Clear Lake and Ventura city clerks report races in each community will have just one candidate.
    In Clear Lake, incumbents Mike Callanan and Terry Unsworth are unopposed in their bid to continue to serve in the two at-large positions on the Council.  Unsworth

Custodian says lessons learned on the job have been valuable

    Blake Aaron Lobdell, 50, of 808 7th Ave. N. Clear Lake, died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  Blake was a caring and giving person; he continued that in death through the gift of organ/tissue donation.

Walter Wood Jr.

    Walter Amos Wood Jr., 79, 916 Main Ave, Clear Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa from complications of heart disease.   A funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating.  Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.  Memorials may be addressed to Clear Lake School Air Plane Project, E.A.A.
