Noise ordinance considered
Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson presented the Clear Lake City Council with a draft of a noise ordinance Monday night. The proposed ordinance addresses commercial, residential and industrial zones within the city and establishes acceptable decibel levels for specific times of the day.
In residential zones, permissible sound levels would be 60 decibels from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 50 decibels from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Commercial zones would have a limit of 65 decibels at all times. The limit would be 75 decibels at all times in industrial zones.

Re-design of salary schedule results 4.4% package increase
The Clear Lake Board of Education approved a tentative agreement with the Clear Lake Education Association for a master working agreement for the 2012-2014 school years Monday night. The CLEA membership had approved the agreement, which provides a 4.41 total package increase, prior to the board action.
The contract was reached after a redesign of the salary schedule aimed at attracting quality new teachers and recognizing those who pursue National Board Certification.

Accepts superintendent position at Eldora-New Providence
Jay Mathis, principal at Clear Lake High School since 2000, has submitted his resignation to the School Board.
Mathis will become Superintendent for the Eldora-New Providence School District, effective July 1.
The Clear Lake Board of Education approved his resignation from the district at its Monday night meeting.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join the 43rd Annual Benefit Walk to raise money for Opportunity Village and the people with disabilities who depend on it. Then walk one, three, or 10 miles on Sunday, May 6, in Clear Lake or Fort Dodge.
