District Court hands down sentences in sex abuse cases

Two men facing charges of sexual abuse have been sentenced in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

District Judge James Drew sentenced 24-year-old David Powell, of Mason City, to up to 10 years in prison on one count of sexual abuse in the third degree, a Class C felony.  A $1,000 fine was

Investigation continues into cause of Mercy Med-Trans crash

Three people were killed Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, when Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa’s Air Med helicopter crashed north of Ventura.

 

The Mason City hospital-based helicopter crashed while en route to Emmetsburg to pick up a patient. The accident was reported to a 9-1-1 dispatcher at approximately 9 p.m.

Lake Theater gets ready to step into the digital age

The Lake Theater has held an important place in Clear Lake’s history.  And now, thanks to a significant investment by the Sherman family, it will continue to be a source of entertainment and pride in our community.

A $100,000-plus conversion from film to digital projection is expected to be complete next week at the theater.
