CL Police Chief announces retirement plans

Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson says he will retire from the CLPD effective April 30, 2014.  

Peterson, who came to Clear Lake in November 2006 to lead the CLPD, said he intends to remain in the community and will likely stay involved with the department a few hours each week as it  transitions through City Hall

Area sees coldest temperatures since ‘95

It was the kind of day you may tell your grandkids about some day.  Heck, it might be the kind of winter you tell them about!  The coldest, most dangerous blast of polar air in decades gripped Clear Lake, along with the entire Midwest Sunday and Monday, closing schools and day care centers, closing businesses and forcing people to pull their hoods and scarves tight to protect exposed skin from nearly instant frostbite.




VPA and township trustees still at odds over cost of fire protection

Each side has proposal for ‘fair and equitable’ service

Nearly one month after a contract deadline issued by the Ventura Fire Protection Association was missed, and almost three weeks after Clear Lake Township Trustees responded with their own proposal, there is still no agreement to provide fire service to the township after July 1, 2014.

The two parties have been at odds since the VPA announced its plan to dissolve and transfer ownership of the department to the City of Ventura at the start of the fiscal year, July 1, 2014.   In preparation for the change, late last summer the VPA

Gobbler hunt provides chilling experience

It was something I’ve been putting off for way too long.  Last weekend, I finally crossed the bridge.  Finally made the decision to go cold turkey -- literally.

What I mean to say is that I literally ventured into the snow clad woodlands and attempted to bag an end of the season wild turkey -- with bow and arrow.  Traditional bow hunting has become one of my favorite outdoor pastimes and wild turkeys
