Wrestlers enjoy holiday break with 17-3 record

The Clear Lake wrestlers had a great first semester.  The team is ranked sixth in the state and has five individuals ranked.  The Lions’  three losses have been by eight points or less and they are without their highest state place winner from last year, Ryan Schmalen.

The Clear Lake boys went into the holiday break with a 6-0 record and a good deal of confidence following their 76-40 win Eagle Grove Friday, Dec. 20.

The Lions got off to a slow start on the road, but midway through the first quarter they found their offensive rhythm and rolled from there.  They stretched a 20-10 first quarter lead into a 43-17 halftime score.

Sixth ranked (3A) Clear Lake stomped on Eagle Grove 71-13 Friday night to enter the holiday break a perfect 6-0 in the North Central Conference and 6-1 overall.

The scoring was fast and furious for the Lions.  They rushed out to a 20-2 first quarter lead and were up 51-6 at halftime.

It was more in the same in the second half, with the Eagles scoring just five points in the third and two in the fourth quarter.
