Cardinals top North Iowa; split games with Belmond-Klemme

 It was a slower week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura baseball team, playing on only two days, due to the July 4th holiday.

Belmond-Klemme 5, GHV 2
 On Wednesday, July 2, the Cardinals had to wrap up one game against Belmond-Klemme before they could start a new one. The first game of the night was a continuation of a game that had been rained out on June 16.

   

CL softball team ends regular season with a win over Clarion-Goldfield

The Clear Lake girls ended the regular season on a high note Thursday, July 3. They topped Clarion-Goldfield, 10-9, to enter post-season play Tuesday night, July 8, with a 4-22 record. They finished with a North Central Conference record of 3-13.

   

GHV softball team struggles through week

 The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura softball team struggled this week, dropping five games. The team’s record now stands at 7-18.

Forest City 12, GHV 2
The Cardinals hosted Forest City on Monday, June 30, for a conference showdown. The Indians came away with a big, 12-2, victory.
If it hadn’t been for the second inning, when Forest City managed seven runs, the game would have been close. GHV scored their two runs in the fourth inning.
Bailee Pitzenberger and Sydney Childress shared pitching duties for the Cardinals. Pitzenberger walked three, gave up six hits and seven runs. Childress struck-out two, walked six and had five runs scored on her.

   

Lions now rated #1 in Class 3A

The Clear Lake baseball team moved up to number one in the Class 3A rankings this week. The Lions posted five more wins during the week and demonstrated what Coach Seth Thompson called “the most impressive offense I have seen all season” in an 11-1 rout of Bishop Garrigan.

The Lions are now 22-2 overall and 10-0 in the North Central Conference. Next week they will face NCC challenger Algona (16-5) at home July 7 and on the road July 8. The Bulldogs are currently 10-1 in the NCC, with their only loss
