Clear Lake and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura/West Hancock cross country runners are headed to the State Meet Saturday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
Junior Antonio DiMarco, from Clear Lake, and sophomore Joel Toppin from G-H/V/WH qualified as individuals in the Class 3A boys race held on Monday at Spencer. The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team dropped its first Class 3A Region 1 contest on Monday night, Oct. 22. Forest City swept the Cardinals, 3-0, with scores of 28-26, 25-12 and 31-29.
Lions drop first round of Regional competition to Webster City

The volleyball season came to a close Monday night for the Clear Lake girls. For the second time in less than a week Webster City edged the Lions. Monday’s Lynx victory came in the opening round of Regionals.
Webster City earned a 3-1 win by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 25-21 on their home court.
“The girls came out with more determination tonight, not wanting this to be their last match of their senior careers,” said Clear Lake Coach Scott Swenson. On Thursday the Lynx swept the Lions 3-0.
Lions assured a play-off berth with win over IF-A

A solid second half lifted the Clear Lake Lions to an important Class 3A, District 3 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden Friday night. The 19-7 win assured the Lions (4-1, 6-2) of a play-off berth. The Cadets, who are also likely play-off bound, slipped to 3-2 in the District and 4-4 overall. The win left the Lions tied for the District lead with Humboldt with one game remaining in the regular season. Clear Lake will host Algona, while the Wildcats will take on winless Charles City.
