Cardinals seal North Iowa Conference title

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura boys are winding down their regular season and are beginning to focus on what’s ahead for tournament play. The Cardinals got a bye in the first round of Class 2A District 4 tournament action.  G-H/V will open tournament play on Thursday, Feb. 14, at home against Forest City.  

   

Lions pick up wins over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove

The Clear Lake boys are continuing to ramp up their play as the regular season winds down.  Last week the Lions (13-4) picked up a win over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove.

 

“We’ve only got four games left before the tournament begins, and I like the direction we’re headed in,” said Coach Kevin Kahler.  “The offense has been pretty good all year, and I think we’re starting to get there defensively.”

The Lions got back on the winning track last week with victories over Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove.  The team is now 14-4 overall heading into the final week of the regular season. This week the team will be at Humboldt Thursday and Charles City Saturday. The Lions, ranked 14th in Class 4A, open post-season play Feb.16 at home.  Clear Lake received a first round bye; they will host the winner of the 

   

Six wrestlers advance to District meet; team places second

The Clear Lake wrestling team placed second at Saturday’s Sectional meet and advanced six wrestlers to the District meet next week at Hampton.  Osage captured the Sectional title with 233 points.  Clear Lake edged Forest City 198 to 194.  They were followed by Riceville/St. Ansgar with 164, Central Springs with 104 and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura with 50.
