Lions place third at Forest City

The Clear Lake wrestling team traveled to Forest City for the eight-team Forest City Invite Saturday. The Lions finished in third place, just 9.5 points out of first. Charles City edged Oelwein by a point to win the title. 

Four Lions claimed titles: Brennen Doebel, Ryan Schmalen, Ryan Leisure and Ryan Faught.  Leisure was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament after beating second ranked John Etherington, of Charles City, 5-0. 

   

Brandt to continue football career at USD

Brock Brandt, a senior standout on Clear Lake High School’s football team, has committed to the University of South Dakota, a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

 

   

Waldron signs to play golf at Northwestern College

Dane Waldron, a Clear Lake High School senior, has signed a letter of intent to continue his golf career at Northwestern College next fall.

Waldron has played three years for the Clear Lake High School golf team heading into his senior season. A three-time state qualifier, Waldron finished fifth individually and led his team to a second place finish at the state meet last year. Waldron finished second at state as a sophomore and 13th as a freshman. He has a career scoring average of 73 and has won the last three Iowa Junior PGA 

   

Special Olympics Iowa Winter Games to be held

375 athletes from across the state are set to compete in the 2015 Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) Winter Games January 12-14 in Dubuque, Iowa. More than 170 coaches and chaperones, as well as 300 volunteers, will donate their time to serve the athletes and make the event a success.
