Lions move into baseball rankings

Four wins during the last week, including an impressive 12-2 victory over perennial Class 1A power Newman Catholic, vaulted the Clear Lake baseball team into the Class 3A rankings this week.  The 6-1 Lions debuted on the list, released Monday, at number three.  Sioux City Heelan sits in the number one spot, followed by Benton Community.



CL Boys fall to Hudson in Sub-State action

Third-ranked (Class 2A) Hudson ended the season for the Clear Lake boys in Sub-State soccer action Wednesday, May 22.  Hudson, playing on its home field, defeated the Lions 2-1 in the Sub-State semi-final.

“Our season came to an end earlier than expected, or deserved, at Hudson,” said Coach Matt Anderson.  “I told the guys prior to the match if we played 80 minutes of Lion soccer, we’d prove we not only belonged on the same pitch with Hudson, but we would take the next step towards finishing our season.  The guys did everything I asked and played a full match.  It was an extremely tough loss to swallow. We certainly proved we belonged.”


Girls end season with a school best record of 10-4

The Clear Lake girls soccer team was eliminated from post-season in play in the Regional semi-final played Friday in Denver.   The Lions ended their record-setting season with a school best record of 10-4.  The team also set a record by allowing just 15 goals to be scored against them during the season.

CL 1, A-P 0

The Lions opened Class 1A Region 5 play with a 1-0 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg.  The game was to have been played Tuesday, May 28, was delayed until May 30 due to inclement weather.  The contest was moved form A-P to Fort Dodge, where artificial turf made it possible to play.


Clear Lake softball team enjoys an upswing

The Clear Lake softball team enjoyed an upswing in the program last week.  The Lions battled to a tie with Hampton-Dumont, then posted wins over Waukon and Belmond-Klemme before losing to Charles City in a Saturday tournament.  The Lions are now 2-3-1 overall.

Jenna Peterson smacked three hits and Carney Frahm had two, helping the Lions to improve output on
