Win over Webster City gives Lions first outright baseball title since 1965

The number two ranked (3A) Clear Lake baseball team earned its first outright North Central Conference title since 1965 with an 8-1 win over Webster City Monday night, July 8.   The Lions are now 27-3, which is the best record in Class 3A, and are 14-1 in conference play. 

 

The community is encouraged  to come out and support the Lions in their final home game of the season  tonight (Wednesday, July 10).  Junior varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity taking the field against Bishop Garrigan at 7:30.

 

   

Momentum swings to the Lions; Girls get fifth win in seven outings

Momentum is definitely swinging in Clear Lake’s direction.  The Lions softball team won four games last week, including their last three.  The team is now 10-16 overall.  They played their final game of the regular season Monday and begin tournament play Thursday, July 11, against the Lynx at Webster City.  The winner will advance to play July 13 at Huxley.

   

Cardinals split games around holiday

The G-H/V baseball team had an up and down week.  The Cardinals split games with North Iowa foes before the holiday, then split a pair of games played at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo Monday, July 8.  The .500 week put the Cardinals at 10-16 overall.

   

Regular season closes for G-H/V girls

The G-H/V softball team finished the regular season with a pair of losses to North Iowa teams.  They closed the regular season with a 1-27 mark and were slated to begin post-season play Tuesday at Forest City against the Indians.
