Air superiority gives Lions edge over Webster City

In a game of defensive prowess, the No. 5 (Class 3A) Clear Lake team (6-0) defeated No. 8 Webster City (5-1) in a 22-8 display of air superiority.  Poor weather Friday night resulted in the game being postponed until Saturday morning.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (5-1) continued their game of ground and pound this week in a 36-8 win over Clarion-Goldfield (2-4). Despite a slow start, the Cardinals proved Friday night’s Homecoming game was business as usual.  They accumulated 277 yards and allowed only 155.  

“We came out a little flat and struggled on both sides of the ball.  Second half we were able to play much better.  

   

Cards place second at NIC Tournament; top Lake Mills

It was a successful week for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team, as they picked up two wins and placed second in the NIC Tournament.

Clear Lake ran into a buzz saw of North Central Conference volleyball teams last week.  The Lions dropped decisions to St. Ed’s and Clarion-Goldfield.  Clear Lake is now 3-3 in the NCC and 6-12 overall.  Volleyball fans are encouraged to turn out and support the Lions when they host Algona Thursday, Oct. 10.
