Lions roar back for a 35-14 victory over W-SR

Second half adjustments were the difference for Clear Lake in the Lions’ Class 3A District 3 opener played at Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, Sept. 20.  The Lions trailed 7-6 at halftime, but roared back for a 35-14 victory to improve to 4-0 overall.

Number five ranked Clear Lake struck quickly, scoring on their first play from scrimmage, but the remainder of the first half was filled with missed opportunities.

The Clear Lake girls had an up and down week on the volleyball court.  

CL 3, H-D 0

The Lions opened the week with a strong North Central Conference win at Hampton-Dumont.  They downed the Bulldogs 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura volleyball team split a pair of games last week, topping Forest City and falling to Lake Mills.

GHV 3, Forest City 0

According to Coach Kelsey Steffens, the Cardinals came into Tuesday night’s match against Forest City, focused, enthused and ready to play volleyball.

It was a night for bomb shelters, as Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (3-1) lost its first game of the year to Spirit Lake (4-0) in a 29-7 aerial assault. The Indians, ranked number three in Class 2A, totaled 274 yards in the air at an impressive 50 percent completion rate, while also managing to bring the Cardinal power run game to a grinding halt.
