Clear Lake wins battle of district’s unbeatens, 20-7

New class.  New District.  Same result.

The Clear Lake Lions captured another District title and earned home field advantage when playoffs begin next week with a 20-7 victory over previously unbeaten Hampton-Dumont Friday.  Class 2A’s top ranked team fenced in the fourth ranked Bulldogs to go to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in District 2.

CL boys finish fourth in NCC race

Clear Lake placed two runners on the podium and finished fourth in the boys race at the North Central Conference Cross Country Meet held in Humboldt Tuesday, Oct. 14.  

Ryan Faught and Tanner Storbeck both ran strong races, finishing fifth and eighth respectively in the field of 55. Faught’s fifth place finish was in 18:06 and Storbeck ran an 18:20.

The Clear Lake volleyball team appears to be stepping up its game as the post-season approaches.  The Lions readied themselves for Regional play on Monday with a busy week against tough competition.  The Lions open Class 3A Region 3 play against Forest City Monday, Oct. 27.  Play will begin at 7 p.m. in Forest City.  The winner will advance to play the winner of the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura vs. Estherville-Lincoln Central game being played Monday in Garner.

The Garner-Hayfield/Ventura Cardinals (2-6, 1-4) took a tough loss Friday night at the hands of the Clarion-Goldfield/Dows Cowboys (6-2, 3-2), by a score of 13-29. In a game managed mostly by the Cardinals, the Cowboys’ momentum proved a force that was too much.
