NCC wrestling meet Saturday in Clear Lake

The North Central Conference wrestling tournament will be held this Saturday in Clear Lake. The meet starts at 10 a.m.; finals will be approximately 2:30.
Clarion, the 2014 Class 1A state champion, is the favorite to capture the conference crown. Clear Lake, Humboldt, Webster City and Hampton are also expected to contend for the title. Algona, Iowa Falls
Lions remain perfect in NCC

The Clear Lake boys suffered a pair of non-conference losses last week, but bounced back with a win over North Central Conference rival Webster City to go 7-4 overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in the NCC.
The Lions were slated to host Hampton-Dumont last night (Tuesday, Jan. 20). They will be on the road to Fort Dodge to play St. Ed’s Friday then return home to take on Iowa Falls-Alden Tuesday, Jan. 27.
New Hampton 75, CL 61
New Hampton, 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, beat up on the Lions Monday, Jan. 12. The Chickasaws used a strong first half to outscore the Lions, 75-61.
Three big wins for Clear Lake girls; move record to 7-4

The Clear Lake girls strung together three wins last week to improve to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
CL 70, New Hampton 36
The week started with a dominating performance over New Hampton, of the Northeast Iowa Conference. The Lions outscored the Chickasaws 27-14 in the second half on their way to a 70-36 victory.
The game started out evenly, with the Lions holding a slim 17-14 lead after one quarter of play. But the second quarter was all Lions. They rolled, 26-8, for a 43-22 halftime lead.
CL grapplers face tough competition

The Clear Lake wrestling team had another very busy week with seven dual meets. The Lions only won two of those meets, but the competition the was very stiff. Tuesday, Clear Lake defeated Denver, 42-22, and Ft. Dodge St. Ed’s, 73-6, but lost a close 39-36 battle to Charles City. Senior T.J Hauser was having a good night Tuesday when he suffered a dislocated elbow and was forced to default, giving Charles City six team points and the win. The Lions were also without the services of Kyle Willms, who also has an elbow injury.
