Lions keeping pace with conference leaders

The Lions roared back to earn a five game victory at Algona Thursday, improving their record to 5-2 and keeping pace with the leaders in the North Central Conference.
The Lions lost the opening game at Algona, 25-23, but came back to win the next two, 25-20, 25-17. The Bulldogs forced a fifth game by posting a 25-20 win, but the Lions won the final game, 15-11.
The win put CLHS at 12-8 match play and 5-2 in NCC. Iowa Falls-Alden leads the league with a perfect 7-0 record, but Humboldt at 6-1 and Clarion-Goldfield and Clear Lake at 5-2 are right behind.
Coach Scott Swenson said all aspects of the Lions’ game were clicking against Algona.
“Our setter, Carly Ouverson, was operating on full stride with her sets to our big swingers. Hammer kills by Jenna Peterson and spikes by Kaitlyn Pitzen were right on the money. Bailey Kibsgaard also contributed with multiple kills and her aggressive play at the net.”
Ouverson recorded 42 assists in the match. In addition, she was 20/20 serving with three aces and had seven digs. Peterson finished with 31 kills, 21/23 serving with two aces and eight digs. Pitzen had 23 kills, 19/20 serving and six digs. Kibsgaard had 20 kills.
The coach also had praise for front line player Taylor Julsen, who had 18 kills and three blocks.
