Nancy Mae Munyon passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa.
Services were held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Fort Madison United Methodist Church. Pastor Brenda Goodall officiated. Per her wishes, her body was cremated with burial of ashes at Oakland Park Cemetery. Memorials can be given to Lee County Hospice or the Fort Madison United Methodist Church.
She was born Nov. 8, 1923 in a farm house south of Clear Lake. Her parents were Kathryn Miranda (Hunter) Grattidge and George Harold Grattidge. Nancy attended country school and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1940. On Feb. 19, 1941 she married Loyal Robert “Babe” Cox. They resided on farms in Clear Lake and Indianola, Iowa. Nancy worked for Look magazine and Equitable Life Insurance in Des Moines. The marriage ended in divorce. On Nov. 9, 1974 Nancy married Gerald Lester Munyon of Concord, Calif. She became a widow two years later. She remained in San Francisco, the city she dearly loved, working for Consolidated Stamp Mfg. Co. In 1996 Nancy moved to Fort Madison to be closer to family. She worked part-time at Denny’s Greenhouse and at the Emporium in the Kingsley Inn.
Nancy loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, Hawaii, a Caribbean cruise, and a driving trip all along the coastal states of the USA. She enjoyed a full social life and loved to dance. In Fort Madison she was a member of the Rebecca Pollard Study Club, the Monday Afternoon Study Club, and Fort Madison United Methodist Church.
Nancy is survived by three children, Sherri (Gene) Enke of Fort Madison; Dennis Cox of West Burlington, Iowa; and Michael (Connie) Cox of Indianola, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick (Etta) Grattidge of Walker, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son in infancy and a sister.
