Thomas Skellenger

 

    Thomas E. Skellenger, 66, 212 7th Ave N., Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. 
    A memorial sService will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.  Memorials may be given to the Thomas E. Skellenger Family in care of the family.

     Tom was born July 4, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Howard L and Flossie (Porter) Skellenger.  He attended Clear Lake Schools and started working for a construction business.  Following, he worked for a radiator shop in the state of Washington.  He moved back to Iowa where he worked for and later purchased Jerry’s Radiator Shop with his best friend, Bob Angel.  After selling Jerry’s, Tom worked in a machine shop for NAPA, before going into A-1 Home Insulation.  He retired in 2008.
     Tom was united in marriage to Maureen “Reenie” Shannon on Dec. 23, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S.D. To this union one child was born, Mitchell.  
     Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, woodworking, rod and reel repair, and his family time.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
     Tom is survived by his wife, Maureen “Reenie” Skellenger, Clear Lake; son, Mitch Skellenger, Garner, Iowa and his special friend, Trisha Schroeder, Clear Lake; granddaughter, Andersyn Skellenger, Garner; grandsons, Payne and Jaxon Schroeder, Clear Lake; brother, Charles (Nancy) Skellenger, Bakersfield, Calif., and William “Bill” Skellenger, Copperopolis, Calif.; nephews, Steve (Barb) Skellenger, Clear Lake, Robert Skellenger, Mason City, Dan (Darcy) Skellenger, Clear Lake, and David Skellenger, Garner; a special cousin, Bill Bruns, Ozawkie, Kan.; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-cousins, and great nieces and nephews.
     Tom was preceded by his parents; son, Don Shahan; brothers, Jack and Jim Skellenger; parents-in-law, John “Jack” and Shirley Shannon.
