Clear Lake girls soccer team tops Lynx

The Clear Lake girls walked on the Webster City field Tuesday, May 6, knowing it was going to be a challenging game.
“Webster City has always brought out some tough soccer play, and we had to play our best on their home field. The extremely high winds added an extra challenge to the evening,” said Lions Coach Nick DiMarco.

The two teams played even for most of the first half before the Lions took control and went on to a 4-1 victory.
“We had the wind at our backs, but had a difficult time scoring with Webster City packing the box with eight to 10 players,” said DiMarco.
However, the Lions scored first on a beautiful corner kick by Erin O’Tool finished brilliantly by a header off of Logan Anderson.
Halftime score 1-0.
“We took the momentum into the second half and completely dominated,” said DiMarco.
Logan Anderson scored the second of her four goals in the eighth minute of the second half. She followed shortly after that in the 15th minute, assisted by a stellar pass from Ivy Hogg. Anderson finished her scoring barrage in the 26th minute of the game.
Webster City scored their loan goal late in the contest, long after the game had been decided.
Elli Biebesheimer had five saves on the night for the Lions.
Once again, Clear Lake’s defense was tough, keeping Webster City off balance all night long. Beca Bredlow, Morgan Sacia, Paige Cannella, Ellie Tindall, Brea Wagler, Madi Wendel, and Rachael Matthew all played extended minutes off the bench and showed great improvement and contributed greatly to the evening’s victory, added the coach.
