CL girls soccer team out to avenge loss

The Clear Lake girls soccer team will have a chance to avenge their only loss this season when they meet Aplington-Parkersburg in the post-season.  The Lions are slated to meet the Falcons in the opening match of the Class 1A Regionals May 28 in Aplington.

A-P recorded a 1-0 victory over the Lions April 30 in a match stopped with 17-minutes to play due to lightning.

The Falcons scored the only goal of the night just two and one-half minutes into the match with a long cross into the goal through a line of Lion defenders.

The remainder of the match the Falcons had only six more shots on goal, which Riley Brinkmen skillfully stopped. Meanwhile Hannah Bartlett, Ivy Hogg, Megan Kopriva  and Bailey Kibsgaard sent 12 shots to the A-P goal without success.

“They were a good and well-balanced team on both sides of the field,” said Clear Lake Coach Lothar Meyer.  “The girls will have to be ready to play the same team in a week, along with  others on the road, as we have just five matches left in the regular season before Regional play.”

The Lions were to play at Webster City Tuesday, May 7.  A make-up game for the May 2 snowed out Humboldt match had not been rescheduled by presstime.
