Pops and art

The Clear Lake High School Pops Concert and Art Show will be presented to the public on Tuesday, May 13, starting at 7 p.m. in E.B. Stillman Auditorium.  The program will include awards and recognition of senior graduates in addition to a variety of pop, country, movie, and Broadway selections.  Some of the highlights will be “Life Is a Highway” by the Mixed Chorus, “Medley from The Phantom of the Opera” by the Concert Choir, and an original piece entitled “It’s Time,” written by seniors Geoff Delperdang and Ashley Pitkin.  There will also be several solos featured throughout the program.  The high school choirs are directed by Paul Langholz and accompanied by Mary Jane Crail.
     The Art Show, featuring work by middle school and high school art students, will be held in the Middle School Gymnasium following the concert.  Diane Radack and Shirlee Taylor are the art instructors.

Baccalaureates

Clear Lake High School will hold a baccalaureate service at the E.B. Stillman Auditorium on Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m.  Pastor Wil Hunsaker, from the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake, will present the message to the class of 2008.
    Ventura High School’s Senior Class Baccalaureate will also be held Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the Ventura High School Gymnasium. Pastor Steve Cox of the Clear Lake Baptist Church will be the speaker.  Refreshments will be served following baccalaureate.  The public is invited to both baccalaureate services.

Stamp out hunger

The National Association of Letter Carriers Local 471, Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and United Way of North Central Iowa will participate in a “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. “ Saturday, May 10.            Postal patrons are encouraged to put out non-perishable food items for pickup early Saturday morning, May 10.  Volunteers will begin collection at 9 a.m. that day.  Area grocery stores are also helping in the collection effort by putting up Stamp Out Hunger collection boxes.  Shoppers can toss in canned goods on their way out of the store and not have to worry about forgetting on May 10.  For more information about the food drive, call 641-430-4928.  To volunteer to pick up food, contact the United Way at 641-423-1774.
