Cake auction

    A Silent Cake Auction will be held Friday, Jan. 22, at Clear Lake High School in support of CLHS Prom 2010.  The silent auction will take place in the cafeteria during the CLHS girls and boys varsity basketball games.  Bidding begins at 5 p.m., and concludes after halftime of the boys varsity game (approximately 8:30 p.m.)  All proceeds go to 2010 C.A.R.E.S. Post-Prom efforts.  Those interested in donating a cake are asked to call 357-5161.  Donations to C.A.R.E.S. may be sent to 309 Birch Avenue, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

School tour

    Ventura High School invites the public to see its renovations completed to date and discuss plans for future improvements during an open house Friday, Jan. 22.  The school will be open for tours from 4:30 to 6:30.  Starting at 5 p.m. the junior class post prom committee will have a baked potato bar for only $4.  Guests are then encouraged to stay to see the high school basketball teams take on Northeast Hamilton starting at 6:30 p.m.

Soup supper

    Clear Lake Boy Scout Troop 30 invites the public to its Annual Vegetable Soup and Chili Supper from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave. N. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12-years.

Grown-up storytime

Get some “Cabin Fever Reliever” at the Clear Lake Public Library, Monday, Jan. 25, from 7 to 7:45 p.m.  This Story Time for Grown-Ups will include “Prinderella the Cince” read by Youth Services Librarian Martha Boyes,  along with short stories and poems read by other library staff personel, and volunteers Mary Alexander and Lisa Pope.  There will be refreshments.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will hold a Clear Lake Area Blood Drive Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 2:30-6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Opportunity Village, 1200 N. 9th St. W.  The drive is sponsored by Opportunity Village. For an appointment, call Carol at 357-5277.

Ice skating

The public ice skating rink at Marion Park is open for the season. Warming house hours are Monday-Friday 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 1-5 p.m.  Skating is free to the public and open to all age groups.
