Iowa’s REAP Program is the
topic of a meeting set for Thurs-
day, Oct. 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at
the Ventura Community Cen-
ter, 4 N. Weimer St. The Iowa
legislature created the REAP
Program in 1989, and each year
invests about $16 million in na-
ture resources throughout the
state. REAP Region 2 includes
Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Franklin,
Hancock, Kossuth, Mitchell,
Winnebago and Worth Coun-
ties. Total Region 2 REAP
funding is $10,811,336. Cer-
ro Gordo County received
$3,445,096 of that amount.

try State qualifiers on Saturday

Bridge work on 12th Avenue South
Work on 12th Avenue South is continuing this month as Peterson Contractors, Inc. is removing the existing bridge. A new bridge is expected to be update Monday

Council to get
CLEAR Project
The Clear Lake City Council will receive an update on
the CLEAR Project at the next regular meeting of the Clear
Lake City Council Monday, Nov. 2.
Representatives from the Association for the Preserva-
tion of Clear Lake (APCL) are slated to be on the agenda
at the 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 Council meeting to give a CLEAR
Project status report.
In June, CLEAR Project Coorindator Mary Jo Burk-
gren resigned her position. She was named to the job in
March 2013 after long-time leader David Knoll stepped
down to accept a position with the Iowa Department of
Natural Resources. The position has been funded equally
by three entities: the City of Clear Lake, APCL and Han-
cock County Soil and Water Commission. The Hancock
County office served as Burkgren’s manager. At the time
of Burkgren’s departure, Deb Tesar, president of the APCL,
said Hancock Soil and Water wants to remain involved in
the CLEAR Project, but feels it does not have the resources
to manage the position.
