Virginia D. James

 

Virginia D. James, 100, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City.  

An inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Humane Society or Habitat for Humanity in Virginia’s memory.

Virginia was born April 21, 1923, the daughter of Jospeh C. and Fern (Hoskins) Dehr in rural Thornton, Iowa.  Virginia graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1941.  On May 2, 1942 she was united in marriage to John James in Litchfield Park, Az.; to this union they were blessed with three children.  Virginia and John enjoyed traveling.  They wintered in Mesa, Az. for many years. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends.

Virginia served numerous community committees, was a member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and was a member of Miriam Circle.  Virginia was a member of the AQ T.T.T., Chapter EA of PEO, she played Bridge and was in book club.

Virginia is survived by her children, Jacquelyn (James) Simon, Mason City, Richard (Mary) James, Galesburg, Ill., Dori (Steve Musson) James, Mason City; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Wendy) Simon, Jennifer Todd, Jonathon James, Joshua (Erica) James, Patrick (Stephanie) James, Zachary (Joni) James; great-grandchildren, Sam, Benjamin, Owen, Annabelle, Jaydon and Jace; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora (Harrison) Kohl and JoAnne (William) Nisbett. 

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
