Toppin captures two golds for Vikings at opening meet

   The Ventura boys track team opened their season on Monday, March 26 at the NEH Early Bird held at South Hamilton in Jewell.
    Sophomore Joel Toppin paced the Vikings with two first place finishes.  Toppin ran the 3200 meter run in 11:05.84 and the 800 meter run in 2:16.70 to capture the gold

medals.
    Also placing at the meet was Sam Treloar in the 800 meter run.  Treloar placed fourth with a time of 2:37.15.  Zach Zwiefel placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17’19.5” and he placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.64.  Josh Miller placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 92”.  Jeff O’Brien placed sixth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:31.16.
    “It was a good first meet,” said Coach Rod Huber.  “We focused on individual events to build experience.  A lot of the younger guys did a good job and this will be a good starting point to build off of.”
    Ventura competes at Clarion on Thursday, April 5 at 5 p.m.
