Soccer boys are off to a 1-1 start on the 2012 season

  The Clear Lake boys soccer team is off to a 1-1 start on the season.  The team opened at home Thursday, April 5, against Humboldt.  The two teams played evenly, but Humboldt came away with the win, 4-2.  Monday, the Lions got their first win with by a 3-1 score over Mason City.  Next up for the Lions is a Thursday, April 12, game at home against Garner-Hayfield.

    The Lions had some opportunities, but failed to capitalize on them in a 4-2 loss to Humboldt Thursday. 
    “We controlled the ball well and overall possession was certainly to our advantage.  In it’s totality we did fairly well with several aspects of the game, excluding the score board,” said Coach Matt Anderson.
    The Lions’ first score of the night came from a penalty kick by Antonio DiMarco.  The score was even at 1-1 at half.  Clear Lake’s second goal came off a throw in by Carson Farmer to Jack Abbas, who made a nice pass to DiMarco for the goal.  The effort evened the score at 2-2.
    “There were a couple of unfathomable plays which ended up defining the night to our disadvantage.  Overall I was pleased with our pressure and resolve to get back into the game,” added Coach Anderson.

    Much like their first game, the Lions controlled the ball in a 3-1 victory over Mason City Monday night, April 9. 
    “We did not do ourselves any favors by failing to convert our opportunities into goals,” said Coach Anderson, whose team trailed the Mohawks 1-0 at half.
