Nancy S. Ingham

Nancy Sherrill (Nelson) Ingham, 85, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at Hancock County Health Systems, Britt, Iowa.  

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave. N., Clear Lake, with Pastor Brad Sheldon officiating. Burial will take place in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.

  Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave, Clear Lake.

  Nancy was born on Dec. 4, 1937, at the Park Hospital in Mason City, the daughter of Laverne and Reva (Zirbel) Nelson.  She graduated from Fertile High School in 1956.  She attended Waldorf College in Forest City.  Nancy also was a telephone operator in Garner and Mason City.  On Feb. 1, 1958 she married George Ingham at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.  To this union three daughters were born, Wendy, Wanda, and Marcia.  

  Over the years she enjoyed crafts, sewing, and collecting coins.  Over the last several years she led the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Drive at the church.  She also enjoyed attending auctions over the many years, where she made many new friends.  Nancy liked going to coffee at the Swaledale Town Hall with the ladies.  Being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was her greatest joy and she enjoyed attending all of their activities.

  Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, George; daughters, Wendy Wheeler, Wanda (Denis) Avery, and Marcia Ingham; grandchildren, Jill (Mike Suhr) Avery, Alex (Emily) Avery; three great-granddaughters, Emma Miller, Leighton and Palmer Avery; one brother, Larry (Donna) Nelson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews;  sisters-in-law, Lois Woiwood, Shirley Brady and Dorothy Brady; brother-in-law, Eddie (Cathy) Ingham.  

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Fines and Bernice Ingham; and son-in-law, Ron Wheeler. 

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
