Monson to play golf for University of St. Francis

Meg Monson, a standout in multiple sports at Clear Lake High School, has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.
Monson has led the CLHS girls golf team to the State Meet in each of her high school years.

In 2009 she finished eighth overall as a freshman, with her team finishing third; in 2010 the Lions were Class 3A

State champs, helped by Monson’s third place finish; in 2011 she was fourth and the team was second in Class 3A.
University of St. Francis women’s golf Coach Tom O’Connor said Monson was one of his top two recruits.  Monson joins Rebecca Grynevich, of Frankkfort, Ill. as sign-ons for the Saints golf program.
“I think that she’ll be one of our top two golfers,” said O’Connor, who stopped at CLHS Thursday as Monson made her commitment to the school official.  O’Connor, who is in his 10th year leading the program, said he feels his team is on the verge of an NCAA berth.  The school competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), which it won last fall, and placed second out of eight teams in the NAIA national tournament qualifier last spring.
Monson said she visited St. Francis a year ago and liked the coaching staff, team and campus.  “It seemed like a good fit,” she said.  “I made the final decision in December.  She expects to be a roommate to Grynevich, who coincidentally is a quadruplet;  Monson is a triplet.
By announcing her school choice early,  Monson said she is ready to concentrate fully on her senior season.  Schools began showing their interest in Monson after her freshman season and the number kept multiplying through her high school years.
St. Francis University has a campus enrollment of 3,320 students.
