Margaret M. Vaage

Margaret Marlene (Baker) Vaage, 88, of Clear Lake, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023 at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Sylvester Holima and Randy Vaage officiating. Burial was held at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, prior to the funeral service.

Margaret was born on April 25, 1934, the daughter of Jeremy and Carrie (Johnson) Baker, of Ventura. She was a graduate of Ventura High School. On Aug. 31, 1952, she married Orvin Vaage in Ventura. Together the couple had two children, Shelly and Randy. 

Margaret spent over 50 years working as a cashier at many grocery stores, mainly Econofoods.

She was a member of TOPS and a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards, bird watching, admiring flowers, as well as cooking and baking. Her love for her family and great sense of humor was always present in every area of her life.

She will be dearly missed by her family; son, Randy (Linda) Vaage; son-law, Darvin Rose (Judy); brother, Robert Baker; grandchildren, Carrie (Scott) Gerhardt, Angie Rose, Jenni (Matt) Sauer, Michele (Chad) Harrison, Jeff (Jeslynne) Vaage; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jaxson and Carly Gerhardt, Makenna, Emma and Lila Sauer, Kylie, Faith, Brayden and Addie Harrison, and Jamison and Chandler Vaage.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Orvin; her daughter, Shelly Rose; her parents; brothers, Donald and Loren Baker; and her sister, Dorothy Pitkin, all from Clear Lake; as well as her parents in-law.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
