Lady Vikes keep dropping times

    The Ventura girls track team continues to see improvement as they prepare for District competition on Thursday, May 10, in Lake Mills.
West Hancock Meet
    The Lady Vikes faced some tough competition at the West Hancock Meet on Monday, April 30, but that didn’t faze them much, as they recorded some best times of the season.

    Emily Mathews had her personal best jump in the long jump with a leap of 15’10”.  The jump garnered her a first place finish. She was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.96.
    The sprint medley team of Courtney Younge, Stacy Hackenmiller, Mathews and Emily Spilman ran the race in 2:03.92 for a second place finish.
    Other placements went to:
    •Long Jump:  Stephenson, 5th, 13’9”
    •Shot Put:  Shelby Rayhons, 4th, 31’7.5”
    400:  Spilman, 5th, 1:06.04
    4x100:  Younge, Hackenmiller, Stephenson, Spilman, 5th, 57.09

Conference Meet
    Ventura placed third in the six-team field at the Conference meet held on Tuesday, May 1, in Armstrong.  The meet showed them where they stood in the conference - in some events that is pretty good.
    Emily Mathews captured three first place finishes to pace the team.  She won the long jump event with a leap of 15’6””; she won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.91; and she anchored the winning shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:13.73.  Other relay members were Stacy Hackenmiller, Courtney Younge and Sola Stephenson.
    Shelby Rayhons also had a good night, capturing a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 32’7.5”.
