Kockler and Raner advance to State Doubles Meet

    The Clear Lake Boys doubles team of Jerry Kockler and Paul Raner won the District  championship Thursday, May 10, at Fort Dodge, qualifying them for play at the State doubles meet in Waterloo May 25-26.
    Kockler and Raner, the number one and two players on the Lions team, received a bye in the first round based on their seed.

    They were 6-2 winners in the second round, sending them to the semi finals paired against a team from conference power Fort Dodge St. Ed’s.  Kockler and Raner emerged with a 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Averill/Laufersweiler. 
    In the finals, the Lion duo faced another St. Ed’s team.  They earned the win over Eide/Albright,  6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
    St. Ed’s won the District as a team.  Clear Lake was second with 17 points and Aplington-Parkersburg finished third with 12 points.
