Conference runner-up honors go to CL girls

Bishop Garrigan squeezed past Clear Lake 357-359 to capture the North Central Conference title Monday at River Road Golf Course in Algona.  Garrigan’s Alexa Capesius was the medalist with a round of 80.  Clear Lake’s Meg Monson was runner-up with an 82.
The two teams were heads and shoulders above the rest of the conference field.  Third place Humboldt finished 68 strokes behind the Lions with a score of 427.
The Lions also received a 90 from Malorie Fischels, 93 from Lexi Lovik and 94 from Taylor Berger.

The close finish was a marked improvement from a meeting between the two top teams a week earlier at the Bishop Garrigan Invitational played at Spring Valley Golf Course. Garrigan topped the Lions by 18 strokes at that event, 343-361.  Humboldt, Emmetsburg and Estherville-Lincoln Central rounded out the field.
Meg Monson shot a (45-36) to lead the Lions with an 81.  Taylor Berger was consistent with a (46-46) 92.  Lexi Lovik (49-45) and Paige Backhaus (47-47) had 94s.
