Bonnie Sue Prestholt

 

Bonnie Sue Prestholt, 79, of Hanlontown, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Linda Johnson-Prestholt officiating. A private family burial was held in Elim Cemetery, rural Fertile, Iowa. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bonnie Sue Monk was born Feb. 17, 1944, in Hopkinsville, Ky. She was the daughter of Dewey and Freda Fern (Bozzel) Monk. Bonnie was raised and educated in Kentucky. On Oct. 10, 1968, Bonnie and Don were married and moved to make their home in Hanlontown, where they raised their four children. They were about to celebrate their 55th anniversary this year. 

Through the years, Bonnie worked as a waitress, home health aide, and a laborer at Sperry/Unisys, until her retirement. 

Bonnie loved spending time with Don and her family. She loved being with her grandchildren and being involved in their lives. Bonnie enjoyed taking family vacations back to Kentucky. She enjoyed hosting her family for events and holidays. Bonnie was a member of Church of Christ in Fertile and Clear Lake Christian Church. She served on the City Council in Hanlontown. Bonnie will be remembered for her great sense of humor and quick wit. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Donald Prestholt; her children, Jenifer (Chad) Harrison, Kenneth “Ole” (Suzanne) Prestholt, David (Linda) Prestholt, Vince Prestholt; grandchildren, Brenden Harrison, Haley (Drew) Walswick, Maranda (fiancé Bryce Butler) Harrison, Amy Prestholt, Aaron (Michaela) Prestholt, Alex Prestholt, Shanna (Jeff) Etherton, Brock Prestholt, Derek (Brenna) Prestholt, Luke (Kayla) Prestholt, Zephrey Prestholt, Tanner Prestholt; 14 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; four sisters; five brothers; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and one niece.
